Oscar Ceremony in Beverly Hills / California

On February 7, 2009 Volker Schumacher received one of the most prestigious honors in the film industry, a Scientific and Engineering Award from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) for the optical development of the ARRIMAX 18/12 HMI.
On the picture you see him together with the project partners Erwin Melzner and Timo Mueller, staff members of the ARRI company in Germany. Not since 2004 has an AMPAS Scientific and Technical award been given for advancement in lighting equipment. The Award in the form of an Academy Plaque was officially presented to the three honorees during a ceremony at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, CA on Feb. 7, 2009.

AMPAS has distinguished Volker Schumacher, CEO opsira GmbH and Head of the Optical Engineering Group, for the optical concept, optical development, simulations and optimisation, Erwin Melzner, Head of Research & Development of Arnold & Richter Cine Technik GmbH (ARRI), for the overall concept and product development. Timo Mueller, Product Manager Location Lighting of ARRI, was credited for concept and mechanical design.
